Arador Exposed!

Ooh! Exciting times! Here's where I'm going to dish the dirt on all things Arador!

This section has actually ended up a lot longer than I had intended, but as this story will always own a special place in my heart I couldn't stop myself once I started!

I hope you'll enjoy finding out a little more about the work and the origins behind it!

How it began...

So, let's go back in time a few years... actually while I'm writing this it's 9 years! 2001 saw the birth of Arador as you know (or don't know) it today!

It all started in the sixth form common room at Much Wenlock! Me and my friend Vicky thought it'd be a great idea to write ourselves a story to escape the mudane!

We bounced a couple of ideas off each other for a while before we both discovered we were suckers for a good love story! So the initial idea was that two couples would form over a school dance... but that's not what happened.

Sadly Vicky left sixth form and I was left with the characters I'd designed and no real plot for them. So I started to write the idea based off the dance... but when I got to that part I didn't know where to go next!

So, they sat alone for about a year or two before I finally blew the dust off them and decided to do something with them!

The Characters...

The characters we came up with were originally based off ourselves. I was Raiki and Vicky was Zyla... Xsal and Lyga were more people who we wished we know rather than people we knew! ;)

However, over time they lost their connections. Raiki became someone I wanted to be rather than a true reputation of me! She is strong, independent and feisty! So with that happening I threw in a self-insert Emi to keep Ami (who is entirely based on my best friend Ashlea) company!

Zyla is no longer romotely like Vicky! ^^; I'm not sure when she lost most of her brain cells and just became an obsticle... but it seems to suit her!

Xsal has been many people over the years. I think there's bits and pieces of people I know in there... but mainly he's just Xsal! And I wouldn't change him for the world!

Lyga is the best friend I always wanted. When I was growing up my best friend was a boy called Joeseph who lived accross the road from me. He later went on to University and we're rarely in contact anymore... but I think for that reason I've always treasured deep Boy/Girl friendships! Hence Lyga being such a good friend to Raiki!

I could go on and list several characters who have someone in "the real world" who I can link them back to... but this section would become a lot longer that I had originally intended!!

So what now...

Well, I began re-writing the whole story back in 2003 and didn't pick it up again until 2008! In 2009 I decided to really push myself to do something with it and began turning it into a comic - hoping that by the end of 2009 I'd have finished volume 1!!

Sadly that never happened. In the end of 2009 I got my heart broken and suddenly writing a harmless Rom-Com seemed like a kick in the gut! It made me sad to put it down again, but I just couldn't pick it up.

However, in the short space of 2010 so far, I've been able to light that fire once again!

Someone I barely know said to me:
"...you will achieve everything you want to, I am positive of that..."
And because of this I've been able to stand up again and fight for what I want to happen for me.

Arador is more than just a story to me. It's something I've put so much of myself in for so long that I can't let it go. It's a symbol of hope for me. Which is why it means so much to me that people actually enjoy it.
