Difficulty - 1/5
Time Taken - 7+ hrs
Cost - £40GBP
Costume Status - Active
Hardest Task - None
Easiest Task - Shirt, boots, socks
Favourite Aspect - This costume is so freakin' comfortable that its automatically a favourite because of that. Asthetically speaking I love, seriously love,
my shirt. Its so floaty and girly, I really like it!
Least Favourite - Nothing really.
Why? - I don't really know what inspired me to make this costume. Its a rare thing for me to make a costume
from a game or series I haven't seen so when I saw Sheryl's date costume I knew I liked it, but wanted to actually see
the series before deciding whether or not I would make any of her costumes. It got to a point where I was at my dad's
house, I didn't have my sewing machine and just wanted to sew something. It had to be something easy as I was going to
be hand sewing the entire thing... and while I was listening to my music 'Pink Monsoon' came on and I started looking
for videos and imges of Sheryl on youtube and Google...
The rest, as they say, is history.
Construction Notes
I wanted to make this out of jersey fabric to obtain the draping look the artwork has, but the town my dad
lives in has a very limited fabric options, so I ended up going with polycotton. I found a pretty turquoise
colour for the main part of the shirt, and a navy for he top hem, bottom hem and the bandana. I used a pattern
from the Butterick range (5357) which was a long, off the shoulder shirt. It was suitable to adjust for this.
As polycotton is not stretchy it would not sit around my shoulders, like jersey fabric would, so I had to thread
elastic through the top hem so the shirt stays on my shoulders, and through the bottom hem to keep it on my waist.
The bandanna was two long pieces of polycotton sewn together, it ties up underneath the wig.
Everything else for this costume was bought from ebay or something I already owned. The socks were bought from ebay,
long navy, over the knee cotton ones. I bought a few pairs because I like long socks anyway, and in case one of the
pairs got damaged. Sunglasses and bangles were bought especially from Accessorize here in the UK as they looked the
most suitable. The wig was bought off ebay, a wig specifically made for Sheryl was already blonde with pink highlights.
The shorts were a pair I already owned which happened to be pretty perfect for this costume. Lastly, the boots I was going
to use were a pair of grey cowboy boots I already owned.
