setsuka

Gunstar's Setsuka costume was 9 months in the processing... mostly because of all the hand painting she had to do on the kimono. So when it came to shooting this late-ish on Saturday evening, I wanted to have the costume as main focus with nothing really impinging the background, which is why there are more photos in the bushes, than around the iron structure that I relied on on other shoots. Setsuka is a very one expression character. There's 'angry' or 'REALLY ANGRY' so a lot of the pose I had Gunstar pose in were fighting stances and smug semi-victory and slightly relaxed.

As this was done just after the masquerade, which ended at about half seven I think, the light was beginning to fade. When we started it was dusk. As we were going back to the car, it was nearly dark. So after struggling for ten mintues with my camera to get the aperture right and only managing to get some blurred continuous shot, I caved and decided to use the flash. I don't like using the flash usually, I find it washes people out. When it came to post processing there was a lot of tinkering with the constrast to bring down the brightness, and then more tinkering with the hue, to keep the colours as bright as possible. I actually found the outcome pretty pleasing.
